Biodiversity financing: A global overview of innovative schemes to scale up resources

The current paradigm in nature conservation fails to tackle the fundamental challenges related to the structure of global production systems, the flow of finance, and how it is valued by all segments of society.

By presenting innovative projects, the side event will promote a debate on the need of bringing together policymakers, private companies, financial institutions, philanthropies and international cooperation seeking to develop an ecosystem of investment in biodiversity and nature.

Speakers

G20 highlights: A representative from the Brazilian Ministry of Finance, to present how the nature-based solution financing was discussed in the G20 Sustainable Finance Working Group during Brazil’s G20 Presidency and the main outcomes of the group.

Climate Vertical Fund Experience: A representative from the CPI Lab to present the G20 report on NbS financing and showcase projects that receive funds from climate vertical fund experience (GEF).

Private Sector Experience: A representative from the Nature Investment Lab, a Brazilian private sector-led initiative (iCS, Itausa, BB Asset, GFANZ, etc) to pilot innovative financial structures to nature and biodiversity projects in Brazil.

Sovereign Experience: A representative from the Sustainability-Linked Sovereign Debt Hub, an initiative to expand and spread the expertise on integrating nature and climate into the world's sovereign debt markets.

MDB Experience: A representative from the Asian Development Bank to present the Nature Solutions Finance Hub for Asia and the Pacific, an initiative to support nature-based climate actions and biodiversity conservation by proactively developing scalable and bankable demonstration projects.

The event will be moderated by the Institute for Climate and Society.
